Goodbye, 2012

I can’t say whether it’s been a good year or a bad year.

Academically, it’s been stellar. My grades have been good. I’ve been presented with amazing opportunities. I am being recognized for doing what I love and doing it well. It’s pretty much all I’ve ever wanted.

The pain of personal loss and illness in the family has left its mark, however. When I haven’t been busy freaking out, I’ve been busy making up for all the work I didn’t do during my meltdowns. Living with the constant threat of loss doesn’t leave room for much else.

2013 is going to be a big year. It’s possible I’ll present at the undergrad symposium again. I’ll graduate. I’ll start grad school. It seems so full of promise, but I am reluctant to say, “This is going to be my year.” I will settle for stability. I will settle for getting less bad news. I will settle for a little less  pressure.

Here’s hoping that it’s “Lucky 13” for all of us, whatever that means to you personally.
